Whether you are a flower lover, collector or herb plant connoisseur, you face the annual question: "How well will they survive the winter?" You no longer have to place your plants in the basement or garage stressed by the changing light conditions of your storage area. GreenSafe is an optimal winterization method to provide control and safe conditions for your plants outside.

GreenSafe is an inflatable, well-insulated greenhouse made of very thick and durable PVC film. It has an insulated floor element which can be detached by a zipper. GreenSafe can be used as a cold frame or as a traditional greenhouse. It withstands winds of up to 54 mph, as well as the weight of 1 ft. of wet snow.

The front door consists of a zippered opening which is used for ventilation and watering. When outdoor temperatures dip below 32 degrees an the optional available frost-guard will keep the temperature at about 40°F to ensure maximum protection for your plants. The power consumption in a 14°F outdoor temperature amounts to only 1KW/h in 24 hours.

GreenSafe's setup is easy and doesn't take much time. It can be assembled in just 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the model you choose, and just as quickly stored away in a space-saving package after use. Try to do this with a permanently installed greenhouse!

GreenSafe Components

Top part: The walls consists of a durable and transparent PVC 0.4 mm thick, which is PHthalate-free and UV-resistant. This weakens the harsh UV radiation and the high strength of the PVC material — four times thicker than a normal airbed — prevents air loss. Heavy duty zippers are used at the door and at the seams to the ground element.

Bottom part: The top and bottom of the ground element are made of very sturdy rubber-coated nylon fabric. Between the layers of nylon fabric is a 1.2 inch (3cm) thick insulating layer of polyurethane foam to protect your plants from the cold soil.

Considering the present economic situation and food safety, more and more consumers have decided to grow their own produce. The cold frame can be used for the early growth of your plants and the storage of winter vegetables. GreenSafe offers your seedlings warmth and protection. The large air space and the good insulation of the GreenSafe greenhouse ensures an optimal climate for your seedlings. Choose a sunny, sheltered position to set it up. The soil should consist of washed sand, compost, lime and a little peat moss (or substitutes). Of course, you can also place plastic pots with growing plants into it as well. Ventilation is not a problem, thanks to the integrated air vent and the large door. The temperature should not exceed 72-77°F.

GreenSafe is also ideal to grow tomato plants. Tomatoes out of your own garden will taste much more intense and simply better than purchased ones. GreenSafe guarantees your tomatoes will ripen under perfect climatic conditions. Just leave them in your Greensafe until it’s time to harvest them. The GreenSafe XL version will give you enough room for larger plants — and the UV protection of the special PVC foil ensures that your plants will not get burned in the summer!

Greensafe is available in different sizes. You can choose from a 24 square foot model (M) for medium requirements to a 45 square foot model (XL) for storage of about 25 7-gallon pots. As an added feature, the XXL-model with the 3 ft. extension has a ceiling of about 9.9 ft. to accommodate and protect tall potted plants and ensure their optimal health.

test results

In order to guarantee the quality of the GreenSafe greenhouse, we conducted the following long-term winter test with the XL version:

Test items: GreenSafe with frost-guard (500 W), filled with 6 different potted plants: Olive, Oleander, Lemon tree, Gentian, Jasmine and Camellias.

Test duration: 16 weeks.

Location: Open yard space facing South to provide more direct sunlight.

Storm strength: Wind speed variations of 35-50 mph caused no damage to the GreenSafe!

Snow: The load of 1 ft. of wet snow on top of the GreenSafe left a minor indentation of only between 0.8 and 1.2 inches (2-3 cm). 90% of the snow slides of the top.

Frost: With the frost-guard activated and an outside temperature of 18°F, the inside temperature of the Greensafe will never get lower than 40°F. The frost-guard activates every 32 minutes automatically and stays activated for a period of just 3.5 minutes. This keeps your electrical consumption down to only about 0.8 KW/h in 24 hours.

Sun: On sunny days with temperatures above 50°F, the vent hole and the door should be slightly opened in order to prevent heat build-up inside the GreenSafe. Since the two PVC layers are resistant to aggressive UV radiation, we observed no "sunburns" on the plants.

Setup and dismantling: The inflation with the electric air pump was done in a few minutes, as was the dismantling of the GreenSafe after the 16-week test.

Fungal infestation: We noted no mold or fungal infestation inside the GreenSafe.

Climate: High humidity, therefore no risk of Spider Mite infestation. Watering of plants was only necessary every 2 to 3 weeks. We found the Oxygen/CO2 content in the GreenSafe greenhouse to be well balanced.
